41st Running of Tamarac Turkey Trot 5k Takes Off Thanksgiving Morning

More than 1,500 runners have already registered for the City of Tamarac’s beloved Thanksgiving Day tradition, the Tamarac Turkey Trot 5K. The number of participants and the community’s anticipation is growing rapidly.

The 41st Annual Tamarac Turkey Trot 5K will take place, Thursday Nov. 24, at 7:30 a.m., with the starting line near City Hall, located at 7525 NW 88th Ave. Participants of all ages will race through the Woodmont area of Tamarac as they complete the 3.1-mile course.

“The Tamarac Turkey Trot attracts community members who live in and near our City,” said Greg Warner, the City of Tamarac’s Parks and Recreation Director. “You’ll find that this event has become a tradition among families, friends, neighbors and avid runners. It’s a great way to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday. Witnessing the Turkey Trot’s growth through the years has been exciting.”

The Tamarac Turkey Trot has grown steadily since the first race in 1980. In the last two decades, participation has nearly doubled. Even when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the race to go virtual, more than 200 loyal Tamarac Turkey “Trotters” kept the tradition alive.

After this year’s race, the celebration will include awards to the top three overall male and female finishers and age group winners. Guests will also enjoy music and refreshments.

Online registration is available until noon on Nov. 23. On event day, race packet pickup will open from 6 – 7 a.m., at City Hall. Race packets can be picked-up in advance from Monday, Nov. 21 – Wednesday, Nov. 23, from 4 – 8 p.m., at Tamarac Community Center, located at 8601 W. Commercial Blvd. Commemorative t-shirts will be distributed to the first 2,000 registrants.

The race starts at NW 77th St. and Pine Island Rd. southbound. It will then move east on NW 75th St., north on NW 80thAve., then west on NW 81st St., before looping back to Pine Island Rd. southbound to the finish line.
