Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, currently serving in the U.S. Congress, posted several tweets regarding recent events and personal messages. She represents Florida's 20th District since 2022, after succeeding Alcee Hastings. Here's a summary of her latest tweets and some background on her professional and educational achievements.

On April 17, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick expressed her concerns about gun violence following an incident at Florida State University. She shared her support for the FSU community and emphasized the importance of following safety measures in her tweet "I am praying for the entire FSU community and the brave first responders on scene right now responding to this tragedy. Those on campus should continue to observe emergency guidance. Our country cannot continue to accept gun violence as our new normal. Enough is enough."

The following day, Cherfilus-McCormick highlighted the importance of recognizing local expertise and securing federal resources for communities. In her tweet from April 18, 2025, she stated, "Whether you’re a city or a nonprofit, you know your community better than anyone else. Whatever it takes, I’ll continue to fight here in Washington so that #FL20 communities have the federal resources necessary to fulfill their visions and transform lives for the better."

Later on the same day, she extended a message of goodwill to those observing Good Friday. Cherfilus-McCormick wrote, "Wishing a blessed Good Friday to all those who observe. May today be one of peace for you and your loved ones."

Beyond her Congressional service, Cherfilus-McCormick has an impressive educational background. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1979, she graduated from Howard University in 2001 with a BA and later obtained a JD from St. Thomas University in 2010.
