Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, representing Florida's 20th district, recently highlighted key issues and engagements through a series of tweets. Known for her work since succeeding Alcee Hastings in 2022, Cherfilus-McCormick continues to advocate for economic cooperation, veterans' affairs, and healthcare.

On April 3, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick emphasized the importance of international economic collaboration, announcing her meeting with Governor Abbas Tolli of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC). She expressed gratitude for the insights shared regarding BEAC's efforts in fostering Africa's economic progress. The congresswoman linked economic success in Africa to benefits for the United States, specifically Florida's 20th district. "It was a pleasure meeting with @abbas_tolli, Governor of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC)! Thank you for sharing all the work the BEAC does to foster the continent's economic success. When Africa succeeds, America succeeds, especially #FL20."

Later that day, Cherfilus-McCormick addressed the commitments of the Department of Veterans Affairs, underlining the need to protect resources and jobs within the department for the maintenance and operation of medical technologies. She asserted that fulfilling obligations to veterans and their families should not include reducing staff. "The @DeptVetAffairs must fulfill the sacred obligation we owe to our nation’s veterans and their families. That means making sure the Department has the staff and resources necessary to purchase and operate medical technology — instead of laying off VA employees."

In another engagement on the same day, Cherfilus-McCormick expressed her pleasure in speaking with Florida members of AIDS United who traveled to Washington, D.C., to discuss healthcare advocacy. She reiterated the importance of continuing to support Medicaid, PEPFAR, and the Ryan White Program. "It was such a pleasure to speak with #Fl20 members of @AIDSUnited! Thank you for traveling all the way to DC to remind all of us that we are all 'HIV possible' and therefore we must continue to fight for Medicaid, PEPFAR, and the Ryan White Program. Your voice and your advocacy."
