Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, representing Florida's 20th district, has recently engaged in a series of diplomatic meetings aimed at strengthening international relations and addressing security concerns. Her efforts reflect her role as the Ranking Member of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Subcommittee.

On February 8, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick welcomed Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma Barragán of Mexico. She expressed her honor in meeting with him, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong relationships with neighboring countries, particularly those close to Florida. The following day, on February 9, 2025, she held discussions with Ambassador Nazar Al-Khirullah of Iraq. The focus was on collaborative efforts to address security issues such as terrorism. As the Ranking Member of the MENA Subcommittee, she highlighted her commitment to working with regional partners to ensure American safety. Later that day, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick met with H.E. Dina Kawar, Jordan's Ambassador to the U.S., reiterating her dedication to enhancing alliances within the region and prioritizing peace initiatives as part of her subcommittee responsibilities.
