The application for groups and organizations interested in participating in the City of Coral Springs annual Holiday Parade is now live on the city’s website. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 18 at 5 p.m.
Entrants are encouraged to showcase the joy of the season through creativity that will match this year’s parade theme ‘March of the Toys.’ Participants may incorporate holiday animations and favorite toys from the past and present to represent their favorite holiday memories, toys, and celebrations. Like in years past, float entrants will be awarded first, second, and third-place prizes. Both business and non-profit entries will be judged together with the top three receiving awards. Floats will be judged on creativity, holiday spirit, use of lights, construction, and originality.
This year’s Grand Marshal will be the Coral Springs 2022 Pioneer of the Year, Al Hendrickson, Sr. Earlier this year, Al was recognized with a Key to the City from the City Commission and inducted by the Broward County Historical Committee as a true pioneer.
“Having Al Hendrickson serve as Grand Marshal to celebrate his contributions to the community for the last 50+ years, commemorates the impact our earliest residents had on our community,” said Mayor Scott Brook. “Our annual parade and its theme, ‘March of the Toys,’ is an opportunity to create new memories while celebrating holidays of the past. I look forward to seeing our community’s creative holiday spirit this year.”
A list of guidelines for participation is available online which outlines the use of materials, size and technical specifications, safety considerations, and more. Acceptance into the Holiday Parade is determined by parade planning staff. Any entry accepted into the event and then found unacceptable at the time of the event may not be allowed to participate in the parade. This year’s Holiday Parade takes place Wednesday, December 14 at 7 p.m. (the rain cancellation date is Thursday, December 15).
