HOW IT HAPPENED

The highly anticipated match-up featuring the only two ranked Sunshine State Conference teams began as a back-and-forth affair, with both teams tied at 12-12, following a kill from Julia Bernardes.

A kill from Alex Psoma and an error from the Spartans put the score at 17-17 as UT called a timeout.

Aleyna Kennel added a service ace to put the Sharks ahead 24-23 late in the first set, forcing Tampa to use their second timeout.

The Spartans tied the first set at 24-24, but Amanda Hall notched a kill and the Sharks cliched the set victory after a Tampa setting error.

NSU trailed 1-3 to open the second set before winning 4-of-5 points to take a 5-4 advantage.

Tampa extended their lead to 10-16 over the Sharks, with NSU needing to rally.

Back-to-back kills from Julia Bernardes and Brittany Landrum tied the set at 18-18.

Psoma later tied the set 24-24, but the Sharks fevered rally fell short, dropping the second set 24-26.

Psoma and Hall added two consecutive kills to give NSU an 8-5 lead in the third set.

The Sharks extended their lead to five points, after a Madison Cook service ace gave Nova Southeastern a 12-7 lead.

Tampa had cut the Sharks advantage to 19-18, but Psoma quickly snuffed out the rally, giving Nova Southeastern a 20-18 lead.

NSU earned the third set victory by a score of 25-21.

The Spartans raced to an early three-point advantage over Nova Southeastern in the fourth set, but the Sharks rallied to score 7-of-10 points to take a 7-6 lead.

Psoma scored back-to-back kills, forcing Tampa to take a timeout, as the Sharks led 13-10.

Four straight Shark points, capped off by a Marianna Fiocco service ace, gave NSU an 18-11 lead in the fourth set.

Psoma finished the record-setting upset victory, recording the final two points for Nova Southeastern, as the Sharks improved to 13-0 and 7-0 in Sunshine State Conference play.

COACH'S CORNER

"It's hard to put into words how big this win is for our young program. To go into Tampa and win for the first-time in our history is incredible. Both teams played so well and left it all on the floor. I'm so proud of our entire team; the energy from the bench scored us points and we executed our game plan very well."

"To set the program record for a winning streak is a huge milestone, and a testament to the work of our student-athletes. However, it makes tomorrow that much more important to stay on top of the conference and keep momentum."
