Nova Southeastern University Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 23.
Competitive 2021-22 schedule includes NSU’s Shark Bite Invite from Oct. 29 - 31
After being ranked as the nation's No. 3 program for much of last season, head coach Doug Neagle and the Nova Southeastern women's tennis team will officially open their highly-anticipated, 2021-22 campaign this Friday, Sept. 24 at the four-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals.
The ITA Regionals is scheduled as the first of four tournaments this fall for the Sharks, as the non-championship portion of their schedule will later wrap up in late October with NSU set to host its very own Shark Bite Invite.
"We are really excited about our schedule and so pumped to have a fall season this year," said Neagle, a two-time Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year. "The ladies really missed that last year. This year, we are hosting our first annual Shark Bite Invite, with solid teams like Keiser, Lynn and Tampa coming in."
Rolling into 2022, NSU will ramp up for its spring, championship season with three tune-up scrimmages in the month of January prior to getting its regular season underway on the road at SSC opponent Embry-Riddle on Feb. 5.
Outside of tournament action, the Sharks will be at home for 10 matches this season, including a showdown on Mar. 24 with defending national champion Barry. Neagle and company will also welcome Wayne State, Hillsdale and St. Mary's to the NSU Tennis Complex in the non-conference before concluding the regular season with an intriguing, neutral-site contest with Hawaii Pacific on Apr. 15.
In what is expected to be yet another loaded tournament this season, the Sharks will return to the ITA Indoor Championships in Edmond, Okla. from Feb. 25 -27.
The SSC Tournament will be held from Apr. 22 -24, with the NCAA Tournament slated to begin on May 7.
"In the spring, we've added some strong, nationally-ranked teams that we have not played in my tenure, so that's exciting," continued Neagle. "We were fortunate to get invited back to the ITA National Indoor Championships in February, which I know the ladies are stoked for!"
