Nova Southeastern University issued the following announcement on Aug. 12.

Nova Southeastern University is pleased to announce that it’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) concentration in the College of Psychology’s Department of Counseling has been granted eight-year accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The council serves as a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and grants accreditation to graduate counseling programs in the United States.

“This accomplishment is a testament to the integrity of the program and quality of the faculty, staff, and stakeholders whose steadfast efforts made this accreditation possible,” said Karen Grosby, Ph.D., dean of the College of Psychology. “For us, this achievement provides recognition that the content and quality of our program have been evaluated and meet the standards set by the profession.”

NSU’s counseling curriculum spans 33 semester hours of graduate credit, in addition to a student’s chosen concentration. The curriculum provides students with both a comprehensive foundation – and their choice of five specialized paths, so they can customize their educational journey. The program is designed to:

Counsel those with stress management, self-esteem, aging, job and career concerns, educational decisions, mental, emotional and relational issues, trauma, family, parenting, and marital problems.

Confidently collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses, school counselors and other mental health professionals.

CACREP accreditation of the CMHC concentration includes the traditional format offered at the Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus, the weekend intensive/hybrid format offered at the Miami, Orlando, Palm Beach, and Tampa Bay regional campuses, and an online delivery format.
