Coconut Creek Police Department Seeks To Earn First State Reaccreditation Recognition

7

City of Coconut Creek recently issued the following announcement.

The Coconut Creek Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of the reaccreditation process from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) from August 24 – 26, 2021. Three CFA assessors will spend three days reviewing policies, interviewing employees, and making sure all CFA protocols are being followed department-wide. “Fewer than half of all law enforcement agencies in the state are CFA certified,” explained Chief of Police Butch Arenal. “A CFA certified agency is a distinction that ensures its community that its police department is meeting or exceeding the highest standards in accountability, transparency, and safety in law enforcement.”

The Coconut Creek Police Department gained initial CFA accreditation in October of 2018. The department will have to demonstrate competency in nearly 240 CFA core standards in order to earn reaccreditation. Many of the standards are essential to officer safety, customer service, and community trust.

As part of the reaccreditation process, the community is invited to offer comments by emailing the Coconut Creek Police Department. Emails can be addressed to pdaccreditation@coconutcreek.net and will be shared with the on-site assessment team. Comments may also be sent directly to the CFA. The organization’s mailing address is: Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, P.O. Box 1489, Tallahassee, FL, 32302. The CFA also accepts emailed comments at flaccreditation@fdle.state.fl.us.

All community input will be included in the assessment team’s report to the full Commission in order to determine the department’s reaccreditation status. CFA accredited agencies go through this reaccreditation process every three years.

As part of the on-site assessment process, the Coconut Creek Police Department will be conducting a Static Display, which is a display of vehicles, equipment, and personnel that can be reviewed and evaluated by assessors to ensure compliance. Forensic Services, SWAT, K-9, Detectives, Bike Officers, etc. will all be a part of this display. In an effort to involve our Coconut Creek community in this process, members of the community are invited to attend the display, meet the officers, and see their tax dollars at work. The Static Display is scheduled for Wednesday, August 25, 2021 in the courtyard directly in front of the Coconut Creek Government Center [4800 West Copans Road]. The public is invited to attend on that date from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
