Coral Springs Announces National Day of Prayer

4

City of Coral Springs recently issued the following announcement.

The Clergy Coalition of Coral Springs, Parkland, and Northwest Broward, in partnership with the Coral Springs Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee, will host a National Day of Prayer event on Thursday, May 5 at 7 p.m. at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts (2855 Coral Springs Drive.)

Participants of all faiths are welcomed to join this service and community gathering of shared community prayer, where young members of the various houses of worship will pray for our leaders, our nation, and peace in general. Participants are encouraged to bring family and friends for what is anticipated to be an inspiring time of community fellowship.

“With the attack on Ukraine and aftermath of so much loss due to a global pandemic, now more than ever we turn to prayer,” said City Commissioner and Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee Liaison, Joy Carter. Adding, “Our National Day of Prayer is a 34-year tradition that brings people of all beliefs together to share in a moment of peace and hope for the future.”

The evening ceremony is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided, and all ages are encouraged to attend.

National Day of Prayer was started on April 17, 1952, when a bill initiated by Conrad Hilton of Hilton Hotels and Senator Frank Carlson of Kansas was passed (Public Law 82-324) that the President of the United States was to set aside an appropriate day each year, other than Sunday, as a National Day of Prayer. In 1988 President Ronald Reagan designated the first Thursday in May as the annual observance for the National Day of Prayer.
