Florida Atlantic University recently issued the following announcement.
With the calendar changeover to 2022 eminent, the Florida Atlantic men's golf team and head coach Mark Leon have released the remainder of this season's schedule, the spring portion, slated to begin in mid-February.
"We are looking forward to a big spring, and we are fortunate to play an amazing schedule in 2022," said Leon. "We have a perfect mix of events both close to home and out West that will truly challenge our players. We're also excited to get to compete twice in our home state of Florida."
As of now, the Owls have five spring matches on the docket ahead of the postseason, the first of which is in Gainesville and is hosted by the University of Florida (the program Coach Leon last worked with before joining the Owls). The Gators Invitational is set for Feb. 11-12 at the Mark Bostwick Golf Course.
FAU will take part in three March tourneys: the Tiger Invitational (March 6-8 in Opelika, Alabama), the local Southern Invitational (March 14-15 in Lake Worth), and then out to the West Coast for Stanford's Goodwin Intercollegiate (March 24-26 in Palo Alto, California). The Owls' last tuneup of the regular season is co-hosted by Rice and Houston, the Bayou City Collegiate, April 11-12 in Montgomery, Texas.
"We are going to start the year off competing against some of the best programs in the country at the Gator, and at Auburn and Stanford," added Leon. "This will give us a great understanding of exactly where we are and what we need to work on as we move towards championship season and the Conference USA Championship. I'm very excited to watch this team continue to learn and grow, and I'm eager to see which of our guys are ready to take the next step with their game this spring."
The 2022 Conference USA Championship will take place in Texarkana, Arkansas, April 25-28, with the to-be-determined NCAA Regionals a couple of weeks later, May 15-18.
