City of Deerfield Beach recently issued the following announcement.
The City of Deerfield Beach Environmental Services team would like to advise residents YOUR FLOOD ZONE may be CHANGING FROM an X Zone (low to moderate risk) to an AE or AH Zone (high risk).
On December 31, 2019, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) released preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs or flood maps). Some of these flood maps were superseded by updated preliminary flood maps released on February 25, 2021. These preliminary maps are expected to replace substantial portions of the current effective 2014 flood maps. These flood maps will dictate flood insurance purchase requirements and associated flood insurance rates for property owners who get a loan or mortgage after the maps are adopted.
Flood insurance is mandatory if you have a federally backed mortgage. If a homeowner believes their property has been wrongly mapped in a Special Flood Hazard Area, you can contact the City to submit a request a Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) on your behalf. A LOMA is an official amendment, by letter, to an effective FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM).
The City is here to help! E-mail Suzanne in the Engineering Division to check your flood zone status and see if you can qualify for a LOMA letter of removal at: shorvath@deerfield-beach.com. Be sure to include your property address in the email and if you have a current Elevation Certificate (2014 or later) attach it so a removal determination can be made.
