Cooper City recently issued the following announcement.
The U.S. Congress established the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) in 1968 to reduce future flood damage through community floodplain management ordinances, and provide protection for property owners against potential losses through an insurance mechanism that requires a premium to be paid for the protection. Participation in the NFIP and the amount of the premium to be paid by property owners is based on Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM), which are regularly updated to ensure they are current and based on the best available data. The FIRM for Broward County was last updated in 2014, and FEMA has just recently completed and new Flood Insurance Study to update the FIRM for 2020.
