On May 17, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick reflected on the anniversary of a pivotal moment in American history. She stated, “71 years ago today, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down racial segregation in public schools.” She emphasized that this landmark ruling serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to ensure all children receive quality education and opportunities for success.
The following day, May 18, 2025, she celebrated Haitian Flag Day by acknowledging the significance of the Haitian flag. In her tweet, she expressed pride in raising the flag as “an enduring symbol of freedom, strength, and an unbreakable spirit.” Her message was accompanied by a celebratory note: “Happy #HaitianFlagDay! “
Later on May 18th, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick extended her support to President Biden during his health challenges. She tweeted heartfelt sentiments saying “Sending my deepest prayers to President Biden for a full and speedy recovery.” Additionally, she mentioned holding his family in her thoughts during this difficult time.
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick was born in Brooklyn in 1979 and currently resides in Miramar. She is an alumna of Howard University and St. Thomas University School of Law.
