Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, representing Florida’s 20th district, has been vocal on social media regarding her opposition to a proposed bill by House Republicans. Her recent tweets outline her concerns about the potential impacts of this legislation on South Florida and its residents.

On May 21, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick criticized the Republican Party for “spending their time jamming through a reckless bill that would wreak havoc on South Florida.” She announced that she had introduced “a series of common-sense amendments to protect our families and small businesses,” emphasizing the high stakes involved for her constituents in #FL20. “The fight” continues as she seeks to safeguard local interests.

Later that day, she highlighted specific budget cuts proposed by Republicans, which include “$880 billion in Medicaid cuts,” “$230 billion in food assistance cuts,” and “$500 billion in Medicare cuts.” She warned that these measures could harm families in #FL20. Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick pledged to use every available tool to prevent the bill from causing harm. “We will keep using every tool possible” was her commitment to blocking these changes.

In another post dated May 22, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick reported from the Capitol where House Republicans were advancing their bill while allegedly concealing its severe reductions in healthcare funding. She stated that if the bill passed as proposed, nearly “14 million Americans would lose their health insurance.” She confirmed her intention to vote against it and take all necessary actions to oppose it. “I’ll be voting NO” is her clear stance against the legislation.

Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick has been serving in Congress since 2022 after succeeding Alcee Hastings. Born in Brooklyn and currently residing in Miramar, she holds degrees from Howard University and St. Thomas University.
