Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who represents Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on December 3, 2025, to address issues related to health care access, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and new limits on green-card holders.
In a post from December 3, Cherfilus-McCormick wrote: “Maria’s story is a reminder that health care isn’t a luxury—it’s survival. No mother should have to choose which child gets to see a doctor. ACA tax credits keep families like hers alive. We must ALWAYS choose people over politics. #PeopleOverPolitics. #SCM #FL20”.
Later that day, she commented on the impact of ending TPS for immigrants working in essential sectors: “TPS holders are nurses, caregivers, essential workers, and taxpayers.
Ending TPS doesn’t just hurt them—it hurts us.
Hospitals will lose staff. Restaurants will close. Local economies will suffer.
We must protect TPS and the communities who rely on its stability.”
That evening, Cherfilus-McCormick addressed recent policy changes affecting green-card holders: “The new limits on green-card holders aren’t about security—they’re about shutting out families, workers, and innovators who make America stronger.
We don’t grow by shrinking opportunity.
We grow by welcoming those who contribute.
#ImmigrationRefor #FamiliesBelongTogether
#SCM”.
Cherfilus-McCormick has served as the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 20th District since 2022 after succeeding Alcee Hastings. Before joining Congress, she was a member of the Florida House of Representatives and has been active in public service for several years. Born in Brooklyn in 1979 and currently residing in Miramar, she holds degrees from Howard University and St. Thomas University.
