Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who represents Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress, recently highlighted her engagement with diaspora communities and economic initiatives through a series of posts on social media.
On July 27, Cherfilus-McCormick shared her participation in a local event, stating, “It was an honor to attend the 4th Annual Bahamas Diaspora Independence Awards Dinner in celebration of 52 years of nationhood and the vital contributions of the Bahamian diaspora. Congratulations to this year’s awardees. Your dedication and impact are truly inspiring.”

Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick has served as U.S. Representative for Florida’s 20th District since replacing Alcee Hastings in 2022. She previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Brooklyn in 1979 and currently residing in Miramar, Cherfilus-McCormick holds degrees from Howard University (BA) and St. Thomas University (JD).
