Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 20th district, has been active on social media addressing various issues impacting her constituency and beyond. Her recent tweets touch on concerns related to aviation safety, community welfare, and environmental protection.
On April 21, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick expressed her concerns regarding aviation safety. She reported a significant number of incidents occurring since the start of the year, attributing them to operational issues within the Federal Aviation Administration. “Since the beginning of the year, we’ve had over 80 aviation incidents. That number is staggeringly high and should be a wake-up call that the @FAANews hiring freeze is making it less safe for Americans to fly.”
On April 22, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick highlighted her involvement in efforts to address hunger within her community. Following a meeting with ICNA Relief in Pompano Beach, Florida, she praised their contributions, emphasizing the importance of such efforts. “Nobody deserves to go hungry. I was grateful for the opportunity to sit down with the team over at @ICNARelief in Pompano Beach and see firsthand their efforts to feed South Florida families in need. Thank you for all that you do for our community!”
Later the same day, she dedicated a message to Earth Day celebrations, encouraging continual collaborative efforts towards environmental conservation. “Happy #EarthDay, FL-20! Let’s continue to work together to protect our planet and preserve its natural treasures for all.”
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick succeeded Alcee Hastings in 2022 to represent Florida’s 20th District and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1979, she now resides in Miramar. Holding degrees from Howard University and St. Thomas University, she combines her academic background and legislative experience to address community issues through her role in Congress.
