Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 20th district since 2022, is active on social media addressing significant legislative and cultural issues. Her recent tweets highlight her ongoing concerns and engagements, particularly regarding justice for immigrant families, higher education, and cultural celebration.
On May 1, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick emphasized her advocacy for justice by leading a letter with her Florida Congressional Delegation colleagues “that calls for a transparent investigation into the death of Marie Blaise.” She stated, “Marie’s loved ones deserve justice now. They deserve accountability — like so many other immigrant families who have lost their” family members.
Later that day, she tweeted about her participation in an HBCU leaders roundtable discussion, highlighting her engagement with colleagues from The Black Caucus. As an alumna of Howard University and a parent of an HBCU student, Cherfilus-McCormick mentioned, “HBCUs have the power to shape the leaders” of tomorrow.
Also on May 1, 2025, she commemorated Haitian Heritage Month with a tweet celebrating Haiti’s cultural and historical contributions, saying, “As a proud Haitian American, this month is a special celebration of Haiti’s rich culture, history, and an unflinching resilience in the face of challenges.”
