Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who represents Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently shared updates on her legislative efforts and policy positions via social media. In a series of posts on October 15 and 16, 2025, she highlighted her advocacy for Haiti’s economic development and the protection of Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits.

On October 15, Cherfilus-McCormick announced her participation in the U.S.-Haiti Partnership Forum, stating, “Honored to speak at the U.S.-Haiti Partnership Forum in support of a stronger future for Haiti. It’s time to reimagine Haiti’s future. From aid to trade, from poverty to partnerships. That’s why I introduced H.R. 1114, the L’Ouverture Economic Development Plan for Haiti, to”.

Later that day, she emphasized her commitment to healthcare access, posting, “Today, I stood proudly with my Democratic colleagues, fighting for those who depend on Affordable Care Act tax credits. Healthcare is not a privilege. It’s a fundamental right, and we must defend it at all costs. Instead of slashing vital support, we must commit to expanding”.

On October 16, Cherfilus-McCormick reiterated her opposition to efforts aimed at weakening the ACA, writing, “I refuse to let Republicans dismantle the Affordable Care Act or force hardworking Americans to struggle from paycheck to paycheck. People are working hard, raising families, and trying to stay healthy, and they deserve better. I won’t stop fighting until every American has the”.

Cherfilus-McCormick has served as the representative for Florida’s 20th district since 2022 after succeeding Alcee Hastings in Congress. She previously served in the Florida House of Representatives and holds degrees from Howard University and St. Thomas University. Born in Brooklyn in 1979, she currently resides in Miramar.
