Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, serving Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress, has voiced her opinions on pertinent issues through social media. Having replaced former U.S. Congress member Alcee Hastings in 2022, Cherfilus-McCormick addresses topics ranging from preserving history to advocating for educational and social programs.
On April 26, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick expressed her gratitude towards the Old Dillard Museum in Fort Lauderdale. “Thank you to the Old Dillard Museum in Fort Lauderdale for welcoming Team SCM!” she stated. Highlighting the importance of historical preservation, she noted, “During this time when some are attempting to erase Black history, we must protect our national parks and local museums that help us preserve the past — and foster a better future.”
The following day, April 27, 2025, she acknowledged fellow lawmakers and highlighted the importance of social programs. “Thank you @RepJeffries and @SenBooker,” she wrote, emphasizing, “There’s nothing ‘efficient’ about cutting programs that help our most vulnerable.” She reiterated, “Our fight for the American people continues.”
On April 28, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick addressed the significance of the Head Start program, cautioning against funding disruptions. “Head Start is exactly what it sounds like,” she stated, warning that such disruptions “would jeopardize the $24.6 million that FL-20 receives in funding — a tremendous setback for kids who can least afford it.”
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick’s educational background includes a BA from Howard University and a JD from St. Thomas University. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1979, the congresswoman currently resides in Miramar.
