Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, representing Florida’s 20th district, has recently voiced her opposition to a bill proposed by House Republicans through a series of tweets. These statements reflect her concern over the potential impact on American families and her commitment to opposing the legislation.

On July 2, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick tweeted that “17 million Americans will lose their health insurance under Republicans’ One Big Ugly Bill.” She criticized the bill as “reckless” and expressed concern that it would force families to choose between medical care and essential needs like food. She urged everyone to vote against it, affirming her dedication by stating, “I’m fighting for you.”

The following day, on July 3, she reiterated her stance in another tweet: “We remain committed to fighting against a harmful bill that threatens the well-being of millions of Americans.” She criticized House Republicans for changing their vote without public scrutiny and affirmed unity with fellow representative Hakeem Jeffries in opposing the bill.

Later that same day, Cherfilus-McCormick described the passage of the bill as a significant setback for Americans facing economic challenges. In her words: “Today is a sad day for all Americans.” She noted the struggles with rising costs across various sectors and labeled the legislation as “the most heartless bill of the 21st century.”

Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick has served in Congress since replacing Alcee Hastings in 2022. A graduate of Howard University and St. Thomas University School of Law, she brings experience from both national and state legislatures.
