On the morning of April 1, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick announced a major financial initiative for students and residents in her district. She stated, “HUGE win for our #FL20 students! I presented a check for $1 MILLION to give our students and residents at @UFTL access to affordable housing They deserve to feel secure while furthering their education, and shouldn’t have to worry about having a roof over their head.” This initiative aims to ensure that educational pursuits are not hindered by concerns over housing insecurity.

Later in the day, she highlighted the growing issue of housing affordability, stating “As housing costs rise, the possibility of home ownership drops. This is unacceptable — everyone in #FL20 and across the country deserves to have a roof over their head My new bill, the Lower Housing Costs Study Act of 2025, will help us identify and remove outdated local and…” This statement introduces her legislative proposal intended to address and navigate any existing barriers within the housing market.

In a subsequent post, Cherfilus-McCormick addressed the high costs of everyday living and criticized a financial policy change proposed by the House Republicans. She remarked, “Groceries are expensive. South Florida housing prices are skyrocketing. Yet, House Republicans want to remove a rule that caps banking overdraft fees at $5 per transaction.
