Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 20th district, has recently made statements on social media addressing significant political and economic issues. Through her tweets, she highlights her legislative actions and urges administrative decisions in light of current global and domestic challenges.

On March 3, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick addressed the issue of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians, expressing concern over its abrupt termination. She noted that this decision would impact “over 500,000 critical workers” in the workforce. In response, she announced the introduction of a bill with colleagues Mike Lawler and Laura Gillen to extend TPS for Haitians to safeguard lives and support South Florida’s economy. “The abrupt elimination of TPS for Haitians will purge our workforce of over 500,000 critical workers.”

On March 4, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick commented on international relations concerning Ukraine. She described recent moves as dangerous and contrary to how allies should be treated amidst their struggle for freedom and democracy. She urged the administration to reconsider its decision to prevent further loss of Ukrainian lives due to actions by Russian President Vladimir Putin. “This is a dangerous move — and it is not how we should be treating one of our partners in their fight for freedom and democracy.”

Later on March 4, Cherfilus-McCormick reflected on a town hall meeting she hosted regarding Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security in Florida’s 20th district. The event aimed at updating the community about potential cuts to these essential programs. She emphasized that these services are vital lifelines for many people within her community. “Last week, I hosted a town hall on Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security to keep our #FL20 community up to date on harmful cuts.”
