Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who represents Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently addressed several pressing issues through her social media platform. Her tweets highlight concerns ranging from immigration policy to healthcare for veterans and mental health awareness.
On May 19, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick expressed her disapproval of recent changes affecting Venezuelans residing in the United States under Temporary Protected Status (TPS). She stated that “TPS is a lifeline for 350,000 Venezuelans here in the U.S. Today, that lifeline was cruelly ripped from them.” She emphasized the contributions these individuals make to their communities and the workforce.
In a subsequent post on May 20, 2025, she announced her intention to reintroduce legislation aimed at improving healthcare for veterans. She wrote: “Our veterans deserve the highest quality cancer care available. I’m reintroducing a common-sense, bipartisan bill with @RepCiscomani so that our heroes can receive the first-rate treatment they earned fighting on the battlefield.”
Later that day, she also highlighted mental health awareness by reminding individuals of its importance during Mental Health Awareness Month. Her message read: “It’s okay to not be okay. This #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, remember to prioritize your mental health as much as you do your physical health. You are never alone “
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick has served in Congress since replacing Alcee Hastings in 2022 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Brooklyn and currently residing in Miramar, she holds degrees from Howard University and St. Thomas University.
