Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who represents Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing current legislative developments and public health awareness.
On July 15, Cherfilus-McCormick commented on recent legislative actions by Republicans, writing, “It’s been two weeks since Republicans forced through their disastrous bill, and now, millions of Americans are left scrambling. Is this their idea of a victory?”
The following day, she highlighted National Minority Mental Health Month in a post dated July 16: “July marks National Minority Mental Health Month, a time to spotlight the unique barriers communities of color face in accessing quality mental health care. Mental illness knows no boundaries. We must break the stigma and fight for equitable, inclusive support for everyone.”
Later that same day, Cherfilus-McCormick addressed issues facing veterans and concerns about Medicaid funding: “Community care is vital for our veterans, but long-term stability demands bipartisan action. We need timely, accurate information to protect patients and ensure veterans can retire with dignity. Homecare agencies are sounding the alarm about Medicaid cuts. The transition”
Cherfilus-McCormick has represented Florida’s 20th District in Congress since 2022 after previously serving in the Florida House of Representatives. She succeeded Alcee Hastings following his passing that year. Born in Brooklyn in 1979 and currently residing in Miramar at age 44, she holds degrees from Howard University (BA) and St. Thomas University (JD).
