Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who represents Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress, has used her social media platform to address recent community events, legal victories, and ongoing economic concerns.
On July 21, Cherfilus-McCormick shared her experience at a local church event: “On Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church, I had the honor of standing with our community and sharing a message of hope and resilience. I spoke about a recent legal victory that reaffirms the power of collective action—and my ongoing commitment to building a future where every family”.
The following day, she addressed developments regarding immigration policy: “Thanks to our collective advocacy, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) has been extended through February 2026, marking a major legal victory for our communities. But our fight isn’t over. Now, we must continue pushing for permanent protections. Join me tomorrow, Wednesday, July” (posted July 22).
On July 23, Cherfilus-McCormick commented on rising living costs and legislative gridlock: “Inflation is out of control. Gas, groceries, and rent keep going up, and working families are paying the price. While you struggle to make ends meet, House Republicans shut down Congress instead of showing up to vote on your future. No action on relief. Just more”.
Cherfilus-McCormick has served in Congress since 2022 after succeeding Alcee Hastings as representative for Florida’s 20th district; she previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Brooklyn in 1979 and currently residing in Miramar at age 44, she holds degrees from Howard University (BA) and St. Thomas University (JD).
