Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, representing Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several pressing issues through her social media platform. Her statements reflect concerns about international hostage situations, domestic privacy fears, and national security threats.

On February 2, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick expressed relief over the release of hostages, including American Keith Siegel. She emphasized the ongoing plight of six Americans still held by Hamas and called for their release alongside other captives. “I am pleased to learn about the release of more hostages, including American hostage Keith Siegel. Six Americans are still in the grips of Hamas; they must be freed, along with all the others.”

On February 3, 2025, she highlighted concerns from constituents regarding privacy and data sharing with unqualified political affiliates. She noted that many people are frightened by these developments and stressed that government should protect and respect its citizens’ privacy. “My office has been flooded with calls from people concerned that their information is being shared with unqualified political loyalists. People are frightened. This is not how our country ought to be run. Americans must be protected and respected by their gov’t.”

Later on February 3, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick addressed a national security threat impacting foreign aid and diplomatic efforts. She warned that this situation jeopardizes U.S. leadership on the global stage and poses a risk to millions relying on aid for survival while potentially benefiting China geopolitically. “This is a national security threat that directly threatens foreign aid and our diplomatic efforts. Our leadership and security on the global stage are in jeopardy – and so are the millions of lives that need this aid to survive. This is a gift to China.”
