On February 12, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick paid tribute to Alwyn Cashe, a central Florida native who became the first Black man to receive the Medal of Honor since 9/11. She highlighted his heroism by stating: “Alwyn Cashe…risked his life to save 6 soldiers from a burning vehicle in Iraq, entering the vehicle three times to rescue members of his infantry #BHM2025”.
The following day, on February 13, 2025, she expressed concern over potential budget cuts affecting women’s health research. In her post, she stated: “Cutting the Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH) directly puts women’s health at risk.”
Later that same day, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick discussed international health concerns with UNAIDS regarding a funding freeze impacting HIV/AIDS programs. She remarked: “Thank you to @unaids for meeting with me to discuss the impact the USAID freeze has had on critical HIV / AIDS programs around the world. The most vulnerable around the world are actively suffering from this funding freeze. We must act now and restore critical aid.”
