Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, representing Florida’s 20th District, shared her views and advocacy initiatives through recent social media posts. Cherfilus-McCormick has been active in Congress since 2022, following her predecessors, and has a background in law and public service.

On April 18, 2025, she expressed her relief that a U.S. citizen had been released from detention. “It’s a tremendous relief that Juan Carlos Lopez-Gomez has been released,” she stated, criticizing the incident as “beyond detestable.” Lopez-Gomez, a U.S. citizen, was detained on his commute to work, prompting demands for immediate answers for him and his family.

Later that day, Cherfilus-McCormick addressed economic issues, criticizing the U.S. tax code for hindering economic opportunities and announcing her legislative proposal. “For far too long, the U.S. tax code has deprived Americans of economic opportunity,” she tweeted, referring to her “All-Americans Tax Relief Act” aimed at helping working families achieve financial stability.

On April 19, 2025, she announced a development concerning trade exemptions. “BIG NEWS: My continued advocacy led to @USTradeRep exemptions,” she revealed, emphasizing the economic benefit for 3,500 workers and businesses linked to the Port of Palm Beach. This initiative aims to mitigate economic harm for exporters and vessel owners who ship to the Caribbean.

Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who resides in Miramar and holds degrees from Howard University and St. Thomas University, has demonstrated her continued commitment to her constituents’ welfare through various legislative efforts.
