On April 28, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick addressed concerns about the potential threats to crucial lifeline programs in her district, saying, “Right now, the lifeline programs that FL-20 families depend on are under attack.” She invited her constituents to attend a community town hall in Lauderhill on May 2 to discuss her efforts to protect Social Security, Medicaid, and Food Assistance from significant cuts.
Later on the same day, April 28, 2025, she posted a tweet commemorating Workers’ Memorial Day, a time to remember workers who have been killed or injured on the job. Cherfilus-McCormick expressed her ongoing commitment to the workers of her district, stating, “I’ll always have the backs of FL-20 workers and fight to make sure that they have the peace of mind they deserve.”
In a tweet dated April 29, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick conveyed her support for her colleague Gerry Connolly, who is facing a challenging health situation. She called Connolly “.@GerryConnolly is a tenacious public servant who has never backed away from a fight.” and wished him a speedy recovery, while keeping him in her prayers.
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick succeeded Alcee Hastings in Congress in 2022, representing Florida’s 20th District. Born in Brooklyn, and now residing in Miramar, she graduated from Howard University and St. Thomas University.
