Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, representing Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress since 2022, has taken to social media to express her concerns over recent events and legislative actions. Cherfilus-McCormick, who succeeded Alcee Hastings and has a background in law with degrees from Howard University and St. Thomas University, shared her thoughts on a series of pressing issues.

On May 22, 2025, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick voiced her distress regarding an attack outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington D.C. She stated “I am sickened to hear of the horrific attack outside the Capital Jewish Museum in DC. My heart goes out to the victims’ loved ones and the entire Jewish community.” She emphasized that “Antisemitic violence has absolutely no place in America.”

Later that day, she criticized House Republicans for advancing what she described as a reckless bill under cover of night. On May 22, 2025, she tweeted “While House Republicans may have advanced this reckless bill in the dead of night, their catastrophic agenda is clear as day.” She expressed opposition by stating “I voted NO against their scheme that would result in almost 14 million Americans losing health insurance.”

In another post on May 22, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick highlighted Florida’s loss of significant public health funding. She wrote “Florida is now missing out on nearly $2.5 billion in public health funding — everything from mental health programs to HIV prevention.” She urged action by saying “Alongside my FL Democratic colleagues, I am calling on this Administration to restore these grants.”

Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick’s statements reflect ongoing concerns about antisemitism, healthcare legislation impacts, and public health funding challenges facing Florida.
