Pumpkin Smash This Weekend

The City of Deerfield Beach has partnered with Filthy Organics to host a pumpkin composting event this Saturday, November 5th, from 9 am to 11 am. The collection will take place at 401 SW 4th Street, right next to the Recycling Drop-Off Center.

Of the nearly 2 billion pounds of pumpkins grown in the United States every year, an estimated 1.3 billion are sent to landfills instead of being eaten or composted. Composting is nature’s way of recycling organic materials.

Instead of throwing away your old pumpkin in the trash, bring it in for a SMASH and send it off to be composted. Shovels and various other tools will be available for pumpkin smashing.

Help reduce our waste this holiday season. Bring your pumpkin and safety goggles.
