Congressman Jared Moskowitz, who represents Florida’s 23rd district in the U.S. Congress, announced a bipartisan reform package aimed at restructuring several federal agencies currently under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), according to posts on his official Twitter account.
On May 7, 2026, Moskowitz stated: “Today I’m introducing a bipartisan reform package that would move Secret Service, FEMA, and TSA out of DHS. This most recent shutdown has proved DHS has grown too big and has become too politicized to function without reform. Smaller agencies within DHS aren’t able to work”.
The following day, May 8, 2026, Moskowitz shared details about his engagement with local youth and emergency management officials: “Last night I had the pleasure of meeting with my Congressional Youth Cabinet! We were joined by our friends at the Broward County Emergency Operations Center, and together we taught the students about emergency management and what it takes to prepare for and respond to disasters”.
Later on May 8, he also recognized educators during Teacher Appreciation Week: “For Teacher Appreciation Week, I was happy to send pizzas to teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas and Spanish River High School to thank them for all they do for our students every single day. Teaching the next generation is one of the most important jobs out there, yet teachers”.
Jared Moskowitz began serving in Congress in 2023 after replacing Ted Deutch as representative for Florida’s 23rd district. He previously held positions in the Florida House of Representatives from 2012 to 2019 and served on the Broward County Commission between 2022 and 2023. Born in Coral Springs in 1980 and currently residing in Parkland, Moskowitz holds degrees from George Washington University (BA) and Nova Southeastern University (JD).
