Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, representing Florida’s 20th district, recently shared her reflections and legislative initiatives with the public through social media. Active in U.S. politics since 2022, Cherfilus-McCormick uses her platform to address pressing issues from historical remembrance to contemporary legislative reforms.
On April 23, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick highlighted a solemn remembrance through her Twitter account, expressing, “On Yom HaShoah, we remember the six million Jews who were brutally murdered during the Holocaust. May their memories be a blessing.” She emphasized the ongoing responsibility individuals have to “condemn antisemitism and hatred whenever they rear their ugly heads.”
The following day, on April 24, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick announced her legislative initiative on Twitter: “I introduced the All-Americans Tax Relief Act because all Americans deserve the tools to create wealth.” She outlined the bill’s provisions, which aim to enhance the Child Tax Credit and introduce deductions for everyday expenses, including medical bills and child care.
On the same day, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick addressed the burden of student loan debt on working families via social media, stating “Working families in FL-20 and across the nation have been saddled with student loan debt.” She acknowledged the impact this debt imposes on economic opportunity, describing it as “a crushing blow.”
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, born in Brooklyn in 1979, holds degrees from Howard University and St. Thomas University. She currently resides in Miramar and has served the U.S. Congress since taking over from Alcee Hastings.
