Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, currently representing Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress, shared her thoughts and initiatives on social media on April 30, 2025. Her posts reflect her commitment to workforce development, addressing concerns over immigration practices, and reinforcing foundational programs.

On April 30, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick commemorated National Apprenticeship Day by emphasizing the importance of apprenticeships for the workforce in her district, FL-20, and their role in powering America’s economy. In her post, she stated, “It’s #NationalApprenticeshipDay! Apprenticeships are an integral part of our FL-20 workforce and help power America’s economy. I’ll continue to make sure these programs are available and accessible for the next generation of workers.”

Later that day, she expressed her concerns regarding the current deportation processes, which she described as “reckless and inhumane.” She called for an investigation into the death of Marie Blaise in ICE custody and announced her intention to visit the related Pompano Beach facility. She posted, “The reckless and inhumane deportations process is taking innocent lives. I am demanding a full, independent investigation into Marie Blaise’s tragic death in ICE custody and will be visiting this Pompano Beach facility.”

In another social media post, she thanked Fatima Goss Graves of the National Women’s Law Center for discussing the state of the administration 100 days in and advocating for critical lifeline programs like Head Start. Her post noted, “Thank you, Fatima Goss Graves of @nwlc for talking with me about the critical point we have reached 100 days into this Administration, and how we can all fight back. Lifeline programs such as Head Start are not just important. They are the very foundation to ensure #FL20.”

Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick has represented Florida’s 20th district since she replaced Alcee Hastings in 2022. She was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1979, holds degrees from Howard University and St. Thomas University, and resides in Miramar.
