Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, representing Florida’s 20th district since 2022, has actively communicated her legislative efforts and priorities through social media. Her recent tweets highlight her commitment to local law enforcement funding, women’s health advocacy, and opposition to cuts in food assistance programs.
On May 13, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick expressed pride in securing substantial funding for local law enforcement. She stated, “Since coming to Congress, I’m proud to have delivered millions of dollars in funding so that local law enforcement in our communities are fully equipped to respond to emergencies.” She also extended greetings on the occasion of National Police Week.
The following day, May 14, 2025, she emphasized her dedication to women’s health during Women’s Health Week. In her tweet, she mentioned her efforts in Congress by stating “Here in Congress, I’m fighting so that #FL20 women are empowered to make health decisions that are important to them at every stage of life and ensure that they can always access affordable, quality care.”
Later on the same day, Cherfilus-McCormick addressed potential cuts proposed by Republicans affecting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). She tweeted “Republicans’ $230 billion in cuts to SNAP would rip food out of the hands of #FL20 children, seniors, and veterans. Families would go hungry. My stance is clear: Hands off food assistance.” expressing strong opposition against these budgetary reductions.
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick has served as a U.S. Congress member from Florida’s 20th District since succeeding Alcee Hastings in 2022. Previously part of the Florida House of Representatives and with educational credentials from Howard University and St. Thomas University School of Law, she continues her political career residing in Miramar.
