Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who represents Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared her thoughts on several pressing issues via social media. Cherfilus-McCormick, who succeeded Alcee Hastings in 2022 and has previously served in the Florida House of Representatives, is known for her advocacy on healthcare and community matters.
On May 21, 2025, Cherfilus-McCormick expressed her concerns regarding a legislative effort by Republicans. She stated that “In the dead of night, Republicans are trying to sneak through a bill that would kick almost 14 million people off of Medicaid and leave them without health care.” She emphasized her commitment to protecting families in Florida’s 20th district by saying she is “pushing back and fighting back.”
Later that day, at 13:19 UTC, she paid tribute to Congressman Connolly. She described him as “a caring and committed public servant who fought relentlessly for the Northern Virginia families he represented in Washington.” She extended her condolences to his loved ones and constituents.
In another post made at 15:36 UTC on the same day, Cherfilus-McCormick commemorated Africa Day by recalling the establishment of the Organization of African Unity on May 25, 1963. She remarked that “while its name may have changed, its purpose has not: a unified Africa that can stand the test of time.”
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick was born in Brooklyn in 1979 and currently resides in Miramar. She graduated from Howard University with a BA in 2001 and earned a JD from St. Thomas University in 2010.
