Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who represents Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared her insights and updates on social media regarding various pressing issues. In a series of tweets dated May 15 and 16, 2025, she addressed topics including Social Security, veterans’ benefits, and immigration policies.
On May 15, Cherfilus-McCormick expressed gratitude towards the Dolphin Democrats for inviting her to a town hall meeting. During this event, she provided updates on her efforts in Congress to protect vital programs. She stated: “Thank you to the @DolphinDems for inviting me to your town hall, where I shared updates on how I’m fighting back in Congress to protect Social Security, Medicare, and veterans’ benefits for #FL20.” She emphasized the critical nature of these efforts by describing it as “an all-out battle.”
Later that day, Cherfilus-McCormick highlighted challenges faced by veterans upon returning home. She remarked on the obstacles many underserved veterans encounter when seeking basic care: “Any hero who answered the call to serve should be able to access quality benefits and services when they come back home.” She thanked those who participated in discussions with the Veterans Affairs Democrats committee.
On May 16, she commented on immigration policies concerning recent arrivals from South Africa: “A group of Afrikaners just arrived here in the U.S., having been given an opportunity to skip the line because of false genocide claims.” She questioned why similar leniency was not extended to individuals fleeing instability worldwide.
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick has served Florida’s 20th District since succeeding Alcee Hastings in 2022. Born in Brooklyn and currently residing in Miramar, she holds degrees from Howard University and St. Thomas University.
