On May 16, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick expressed gratitude to “@IsraelinUSA Ambassador Leiter for speaking with me about how we can strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship, the need to surge humanitarian aid into Gaza, and broader challenges facing the region.” This highlights her focus on international diplomacy and humanitarian efforts in conflict areas.

Later that day, she tweeted about the importance of the U.S.-Africa partnership. She stated that “The U.S.-Africa strategic partnership depends on trade, economic growth, regional security, and a global African diaspora.” She also mentioned joining Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette Clarke and House Foreign Affairs Committee Ranking Member Gregory Meeks for related discussions.

In another tweet from May 16th, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick shared her experience at a fundraising event organized by March of Dimes. She wrote: “Had a lovely time with the @MarchofDimes at their Gourmet Gala, which supports healthy pregnancies across the country. They raised $1.5 MILLION for moms and babies!” Additionally, she participated in serving soup joumou surf and turf in honor of Haitian Heritage Month.

Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick has been an active member of Congress since succeeding Alcee Hastings in 2022. Born in Brooklyn in 1979 and currently residing in Miramar, she holds degrees from Howard University and St. Thomas University.
