Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick represents Florida’s 20th district in the U.S. Congress. She has been vocal on various issues, as reflected in her recent tweets.
On May 1, 2025, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick addressed concerns regarding the current administration’s deportation process. She remarked, “This Administration’s deportation process has been sloppy and reckless since Day 1. As a direct result, innocent people are losing their lives, including Marie Blaise, who died in ICE custody last week in Pompano Beach.” Her statement highlighted the impact on immigrant families and calls for the administration to take responsibility.
Later, on the same day, she shared an update about a significant historical recognition: “After 80 years, the Congressional Gold Medal was finally presented to the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only Black and all-women battalion in World War II.” She emphasized the importance and overdue nature of this recognition for the battalion’s courage during the war.
Adding to her activities, she mentioned a diplomatic engagement with Algeria’s ambassador. “I had the pleasure to meet with @Ambalgindc Ambassador Sabri Boukadoum to discuss the bilateral relationship between both of our nations and opportunities for security, energy, and economic development cooperation.” This reflects her involvement in international relations and cooperative initiatives.
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick has served in the U.S. Congress, representing Florida’s 20th District, since 2022. She previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. She graduated from Howard University in 2001 and earned a JD from St. Thomas University in 2010.
